Lesson on Registry Cleaners over .................back to the problem smile.gif

I don't recall if you said if this is a desktop or laptop.

The temperatures are fine.

If it is lagging it could be RAM.
You have 12 GB which is more than enough for most purposes.

Try the following:
Shut it down and, if a desktop, switch off at the wall but leave the plug in to maintain the earth ( ground ) connection to the motherboard.

Locate the RAM and remove just one module.
( I am assuming that you have 3 x 4GB )
Try running the machine again.

If no better - switch off then swap the first module for one of the others.
Try again

Do the same with the third if there is no improvement.

It is unlikely to be a problem with 2 modules but ........
You can try this using just one module in the slots at a time.
The machine will run fine with 4GB RAM.

If you need further information about locating / removing RAM just shout smile.gif

Ok i think now the new installation of windows is doing better i still get random applications hanging idk why but works a lot more smooth than before. The other one still stays very slow but i think that might be due to the registry cleaning and i dont care about it anymore because i have already configured all in the new installation (it was fast because I use a lot of portable programs). Is there a way to uninstall windows from the other HDD without formating it and or loosing non windows related files?

I'm afraid of touching the memory cuz the case is small and is all filled with wires and is very close to the video card. I tried runing the windows memory scan in the expanded scan and it said the memory was ok. I wanted to do the analysis with memtest86 but it does not let me boot from the usb idk why my bios does support it.

No - I am afraid that there isn't.

XP has a facility to perform a Repair Installation of the Operating System - keeping the files and data intact. This is not an option with Vista and Win7

For future reference:
What some people do is to create a separate partition ( section ) on the hard drive specifically for the operating system. This is done before windows is installed.
The installed software and files etc are then stored on another partition on the hard drive.

If there is a problem with Windows it can be deleted and reinstalled without touching the other data.

If the memory scan came up with nothing then the RAM should be OK.
Personally I prefer to take them out.

Some BIOS support booting from USB - some don't.
You would, however, need to make the USB the first boot option in the BIOS.

Have you checked ?
Usually the CD DVD is set as the first boot option with the hard drive next.

I did check and tried inserting the usb storage device into diferent usb ports but with the same result it was like it was checking the usb because the screen got black with the "_" scintillating for a longer time than usual but then it went to the screen where you select wich OS you wanna boot.

IDK if this information might be usefull or not but some boot instances the complete boot took like 1 min and something other more near 2 or 2 and a half min and the last one idk why was fast as it used to be a long time ago when i had my pc brand new i dint measure exactly but i think it was less than a minute.( all the boot times mentioned were without the usb)

I dowloaded the furmark program to test the Graphic card and it did ok there was no lag while it was working and i was only using the msn. It was stable at 50~52 fps. The 386 fps that says there in the max was because i did acidentaly disabled the fur with a hotkey.

here is the pic http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/5237/bunintestfurmark.jpg

I gonna try using an other AV and firewall program to see if there is some problem with that but i've been using avast and outpost for like a year without any problem.

Hi, I was going to ask about AV in case you had McAfee installed, I recently found that there is a problem with that. They know about it supposedly and may soon issue a fix.

However you are using Avast, some of us have recently found problems with that too, mainly false positives but there other problems, and therefore switched to the Microsoft Security Essentials.
That is a free download and now rated very highly by a lot of different security software analysts. I am using it and know some of our other staff are too.

You can download it direct from Microsoft via this link=

Radeon 6800 HD

I don't seem to be able to find this card on the AMD site ???
6850 yes - 6800 nothing.
I think 6800 refers to the series and not a specific card.

The 6850 suggests that you need 1GB RAM minimum
Have you got this ?

500 watt PSU min - have you got this ?

Also the temps from the test you ran ( you pic ) show the card getting up to 81 deg.
This is significantly higher than the Speccy results and if correct could be the cause of the lagging.

The card is a MSI Radeon 6850 HD Cyclone OC is runing at 0.950V 870 GPU/1100 Memory (stock defaults).

Here is a more detailed information

IDK what do you mean by 1 GB ram minimum i have 12GB ram

I have a 585W Gigabyte Odin Power supply

But i've been using this pc for like a year without any problem.

The fur mark burn-in test does make the video cards get very hot. Any temp below 100ºC is normal. Here are some shared result by the users:

Many of these were below the 81 deg that you got - but I accept that there were some above.

If you have (or can borrow) another card to try this would at least take this out of the equation.

Is this a possibility ?

I dont have but couldnt i use integrated the video card to test? I dont know how to swich them actually but i think there is a swich on the motherboard to toggle the onboard card on or off.

I've read that sometimes voltages get desconfigured so do you mind checking if the volt are correct?

IDK if this could be a hint or not but i was listening to some music in my pc normally when i decided to move 60 gb from a hdd to an other then all the music and pc sounds started to slund very slowed down i dont know how to describe it with words but when i used to emulate some games in the pc and they were at like 30 fps the sound was like it was in this situation. Also to move thos file the explorer said it would take 15hs it was moving hte files at 4.8 mb/second

Yes. It wouldn't be much use with games - but it is worth a try.

There was nothing untoward with the temps from your pic.

Give the on-board video a try and see what happens.

Could you please tell me how to disable the pci-e video card and enable the integrated video card on the MSI X58M motherboard please? I've read the manual and i couldn't find how to do it.

Also i managed to do the memtest86+ and it said i had no errors on my ram.

Also i bought the kingstone ram that said it was 1069hz but at the speccy and while i did the memtest it said it was working at 534hz is this other kind of speed is measuring or is the memory not working at it's top?

Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ............ENTER

Click the + next to Display Adapters

A red x indicates that the card has been disabled.

You should see both the onboard and the Viseo Card there.
To disable it simply right click > Click "Disable"

Make sure the on-board is enabled.

1069hz but at the speccy and while i did the memtest it said it was working at 534hz

The RAM is DDR .............. then this is correct - Double Data Rate.

Are you sure ?- if you look at the back of the machine if you have on-board video there would be the existing monitor connection that is on the Video Card and the on-board video ( if there is one ) would give you another connection.

I am not doubting you - but it would be convenient if there was one smile.gif
