My printer was printing fine for over a year and then suddenly when I pressed Print I got an error message (Print Preview Error - An error occurred while printing). And now I can't print out anything anymore. I've tried uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it. The computer recognizes the printer and installs the latest driver and says it's working properly, but when I try to print something I still get the error message and it won't print.
I was told by a friend that it was a recent problem with Firefox and if I tried to use the printer with Internet Explorer or Google Chrome instead that it would work. I tried it and it still didn't work! I use my printer quite often and I really need it to be able to print.
Does anyone have a suggestion as how to get rid of that error message and be able to get my printer working again?

Hi and welcome to 5 Star

What is the exact make and model number of your printer please ?

Also ..
Take a look in Device Manager and let me know if there are any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs against your printer.

Start > type in ....device manager ... hit Enter.
If this doesn't work type in ....... devmgmt.msc .... hit Enter.

Once in Device Manager you will probably need to view "Hidden Devices"
Click on View in the top toolbar > click on "Hidden Devices"

If "Printers" is showing click the > to the left to open it up.
Your printer should be listed. [ looking for exclamation mark / red X ]

If not look in Imaging Devices ....it may be showing there.

Hi Ken,
The printer is a Canon Pixma iP4300. I looked in Device Manager but didn't find my Printer listed there even under Hidden Devices. I couldn't see anything listed as Imaging Devices either. It is listed in Printers in the Control Panel and when I clicked "Print Test Page" it printed out a test page fine, but when I tried to print something out through Email, Photoshop or CaptureWiz i got the Error Message again and it wouldn't print. I'm sending a file attachment showing the Device Manager screenshot. Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks.

Hi again

Please confirm that you can print from Word / Notepad / or other software that you have installed.

Which browser are you using ?

Do you have a different browser to try to print from the internet.
If you are using IExplorer then try Fire Fox / Chrome or one of the other browsers.

Let meknow how you get on.

Hi Ken.
You're not going to believe this(I still can't) , but it printed great from Notepad. I tried MS Works and it printed out a spreadsheet. I tried Photoshop and it printed a graphic beautifully. I then tried CaptureWiz and one of my Emails. All printed without a problem. I don't know what happened but suddenly the printer is working fine again. I didn't change anything so I don't understand why one day it won't print and then suddenly it's printing just fine. I have my fingers crossed that it won't show that error message again, ever! To answer your question my browser is Firefox.
Thanks for the help. I still don't understand what happened. I'm just glad I can print again.
